Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/1/2010A hurricane-like storm, dubbed Xynthia, struck Europe over the weekend and did serious damage to low-lying regions, particularly in France. More than 60 people were killed, mostly in France. Waves as high as eight meters broke though aging dams, inundating coastal areas in the Vendee, where the most serious damage was done.

In other news, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to hear the appeal of former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling, who insists that he did not get a fair trial in Houston. The basis of his appeal is that it was not possible to select an impartial jury in Houston at the time of his trial.
