Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/3/2011

Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/3/2011Talk about climbing aboard the Titanic ten minutes before it hits the iceberg! Iceland has opened negotiations with Brussels about the terms for its joining the EU. Didn’t the Icelanders learn any lessons from their own debt crisis?

In other news, a Socialist member of the French Parliament says that the newly-released former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn was a victim of a plot. The alleged transatlantic conspiracy involved orders from Paris, and operated through the French company that owns the hotel in which Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s… ahem… dalliance occurred.

Well, plain and simple, ya gotta understand, that the people in the streets doing the protesting, and succeeding....are NOT the same people that are the Wheelers and Dealers.

There are two People in the picture, here.

And it looks like the Wheelers and Dealers are NOT giving up! Looks like they're the proverbial Pink Bunny....

I looks like The People are not alert. They didn't quite finish....

Opposition to Iceland joining the EU is almost universal there, yet the government keeps forging ahead. A government of a land that probably has a smaller population than the borough I live in, and it still manages to be completely divorced from both reality and the people it claims to represent.

How on earth does it happen?
